The Awareness of Self and Others

Updated: Apr 18, 2020

For those that are familiar with the Enneagram (Defines 9 personality types), I'm a 3. I'm sure that's not a surprise to anyone who knows me. One of the character traits of a 3 is the ability, ok the need, to reframe a negative into a positive. Ask me in the worst of situations how things are going and I'll likely say, "Well things are a little rough but I have a new business idea I'm working on." Deflect and reframe. 3's are pros at it. We also are typically not comfortable sharing our real feelings as well because that's putting too much focus on our emotions as opposed to what we are trying to accomplish.

I love the cute video below that parodies how each of the 9 Enneagram types might deal with the pandemic quarantine. As we all find life slowing down with most of America under some form of Shelter-In-Place order, this video is a great and funny reminder that we are all processing the pandemic in different ways. While this parody is exaggerated a bit, I think you'll see a little of yourself in one of these 9 characters.

Regardless of how you might be processing current events, we can all recognize the sacrifices of those on the frontlines fighting to save lives, and all those that are putting themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and to keep essential services going. I hope you'll take time to breath deep during this pause in life and I hope you'll seek opportunities to tell the frontline heroes you encounter everyday, Thank You for their service. Love on them, encourage them and let them know their actions are greatly appreciated.

P.S. If you're curious about the Enneagram and want to learn more, you might want to check out Ian Crom's podcast called Typology. It's a great way to pass the time while quarantined at home. Enjoy the video, please stay healthy, and tell a hero thank you.
